How to Set Up Your Ledger Wallet
Setting up your Ledger hardware wallet is straightforward and takes about 10-15 minutes. This guide walks you through every step, from unboxing to securing your first cryptocurrency.
Step 1: Unbox and Inspect
When you receive your Ledger, check that the packaging is sealed and untampered. The box should contain: the Ledger device, a USB cable, a getting started card, and 3 recovery phrase sheets.
Step 2: Download Ledger Live
Download the official Ledger Live application from ledger.com/ledger-live. It is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android. This app is your primary interface for managing your crypto.
Step 3: Connect and Initialize
Connect your Ledger to your computer via USB (or pair via Bluetooth for Nano X/Flex/Stax). Open Ledger Live and select "Set up as new device." Follow the on-screen instructions to create a PIN code.
Step 4: Write Down Your Recovery Phrase
Your Ledger will display 24 words one by one. Write each word carefully on the recovery sheets provided. This is the most important step - these words are the only way to recover your crypto if your device is lost or damaged. Never store them digitally or share them with anyone.
Step 5: Install Apps and Add Accounts
In Ledger Live, go to the Manager tab to install apps for the cryptocurrencies you want to store. Then create accounts for each coin. You are now ready to receive crypto to your hardware wallet.
